How to use the default packing slip template
A packing slip is a document you include inside each shipment so your warehouse team or customer can verify the contents of the package. Invoice Falcon includes a default packing slip template that is ready to use from the moment you install the app. Unlike an invoice, the packing slip focuses on what to pack — item names, quantities, and shipping details — without displaying prices or payment information.
What the Default Packing Slip Template Includes
The default packing slip template is automatically created when you first set up Invoice Falcon. It is designed for fulfillment workflows and contains the following sections from top to bottom.
Header
The header sits at the top of the packing slip and contains two areas:
- Logo — your store logo is displayed on the left side. You can enable or disable the logo and adjust its width from the Visual Editor.
- Packing Slip title — the text "PACKING SLIP" appears in bold on the right side, styled in your store's accent color. Below it, your supplier address is listed (store name, business name, street address, city, country, tax ID, email, and phone number).
Shipping Address and Order Details
Below the header, the packing slip shows the delivery destination and key order metadata side by side.
- Ship To — the customer's shipping address including name, company, street address, city, province, country, ZIP code, phone, and email.
- Order details — displayed on the right side, this includes:
- Order number
- Invoice number
- Issue date and order date
- Financial status (e.g., Paid, Pending)
- Order tags
- Tracking company and tracking numbers
- Shipping method

Items Table
The items table is the main section of the packing slip. It lists every line item in the order with the following columns:
- Item — product name, variant title, SKU, HS code, country of origin, product type, description, custom properties, and product image (each togglable)
- Quantity — the number of units to pack
- Weight — the item weight in grams (optional, toggled via Visual Editor)
A Total items row appears at the bottom of the table when the total quantity setting is enabled, showing the combined quantity across all items.
Footer
The footer area at the bottom of the packing slip can include:
- Footer message — a custom message such as packing instructions or a thank-you note
- Store domain — your store's website URL
- Social links — links to your Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages
How to Generate a Packing Slip for an Order
Follow these steps to generate a packing slip from the order detail page.
- Open the Invoice Falcon app from your Shopify Admin.
- Click Orders in the left-hand navigation menu to view your order list.
- Click on the order you want to generate a packing slip for. This opens the order detail page with a PDF preview on the left and a Templates panel on the right.
- In the Templates panel, select the Default packing slip radio button. The PDF preview updates to show the packing slip for that order.
- Use the Actions dropdown at the top of the page to Print, Download PDF, or Send email with the packing slip attached.

Customizing the Default Packing Slip Template
You can customize the packing slip template using the Visual Editor or the Code Editor.
Using the Visual Editor
- Click Templates in the left-hand navigation menu.
- Click Edit on the Default packing slip row.
- The Visual Editor sidebar on the right side lets you toggle settings on or off. Key sections include:
- Logo — enable or disable the logo, adjust width, and lock aspect ratio
- Shipping information — toggle the shipping address, customer phone, and customer email
- Order identification — toggle order number, invoice number, issue date, order date, financial status, and order tags
- Items information — toggle product images, variants, SKU, HS code, country of origin, product type, description, item barcode, and custom properties
- Weight — toggle product weight per item and total quantity row
- Tracking — toggle tracking company, tracking numbers, and shipping method
- Order notes — toggle order notes and note attributes
- Footer — toggle the footer message, store domain, and social links
- Branding — change the accent color, font family, and font size
- Labels — override the "Packing Slip" title and other labels (e.g., change "Ship To" to "Deliver To", "Item" to "Product")
- Click Save in the top-right corner after making your changes.

Using the Code Editor
For advanced customization, switch to the Code tab in the template editor. The packing slip uses the same Liquid template language as invoices. You can add, remove, or rearrange HTML sections and reference any available Liquid variables.
Renaming the Packing Slip Title
You can change the title that appears at the top of the packing slip document from "Packing Slip" to any text you prefer.
- Click Templates in the left-hand navigation menu.
- Click Edit on the Default packing slip template.
- In the Visual Editor sidebar, expand the Labels section.
- Find the Packing Slip title field and enter your preferred title (e.g., "Delivery Note", "Shipping List", "Package Contents").
- Click Save to apply the change.

Known Limitations
- The default packing slip template does not include prices, subtotals, taxes, or payment information by design. To show prices on a packing slip, you would need to edit the Liquid code manually in the Code Editor.
- The Create template button on the Templates page creates an invoice template by default. To create a new packing slip template, you can duplicate the existing one or create a new template and change its type.
- Packing slips use the same supplier address as invoices. You cannot set a different supplier address specifically for packing slips.
- Label overrides (e.g., renaming "Ship To" or "Item") apply only to the template you are editing. Other templates keep their own label settings.
- The packing slip does not display fulfillment-level grouping. All line items from the order appear in a single table regardless of which fulfillment they belong to.
- Product images on the packing slip are the same images used in your Shopify product listings. You cannot upload separate images for packing slips.
- The total quantity row only appears when the Show total quantity setting is enabled in the Visual Editor.
- Custom fonts uploaded to Shopify are not supported. The packing slip uses the font family selected in the Visual Editor (e.g., Inter, Open Sans, Arial).
Troubleshooting
Symptom | Likely Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
Packing slip shows prices or totals | You are viewing an invoice template, not the packing slip. | Select the Default packing slip template from the Templates panel on the order detail page. |
Product images are missing | The Show product images toggle is turned off in the Visual Editor. | Go to Templates → Edit → Items information and enable Show product images. |
Shipping address is blank | The order does not have a shipping address (e.g., digital product or local pickup). | Packing slips only display a shipping address when one exists on the order. |
SKU or variant not showing | The corresponding toggle is off in the Visual Editor. | Go to Templates → Edit → Items information and enable Show SKU or Show variants. |
Footer message is not appearing | The Show footer toggle is disabled or the footer message field is empty. | Enable the toggle and enter your footer text in the Visual Editor. |
Tracking numbers not displayed | The order has not been fulfilled yet or tracking info was not added in Shopify. | Add tracking information to the fulfillment in Shopify Admin, then regenerate the packing slip. |
