How to show shipping charges & rate names on invoices

Displaying order shipping charges on your invoice gives customers a transparent breakdown of what they paid for delivery. It helps avoid confusion around the final order total — especially when shipping costs vary by method, destination, or weight. You can also show the shipping rate name (e.g., "Standard", "Express") so customers know exactly which delivery option they selected and what it cost.

Open the Shipping details settings

  1. Open the Invoice Falcon app from your Shopify Admin.
  2. Click Templates in the left navigation menu.
  3. Click on the template you want to customize (or click Edit on the template row).
  4. Scroll to the Visual editor section and click the Open visual editor button.
  5. In the left panel, click the Order total information section to expand it.
  6. Scroll past the Order summary sub-section to find the Shipping details sub-section.

Note: The Order total information section also contains Order summary, Tax details, and Payment details sub-sections — those are covered in separate articles.

Available shipping detail fields

Each field has a checkbox to toggle it on or off. Check the fields you want to display, then click Save changes.

Order shipping

  • Displays the Shipping row in the order totals area, showing the total shipping cost with the currency symbol (e.g., "Shipping: $30.00").
  • The shipping cost is pulled from the Shopify order and reflects the amount charged to the customer at checkout.
  • The label uses the translated text "Shipping" (or the equivalent in your invoice language).
  • If the order has free shipping, the row displays "$0.00".
  • On by default.

Order shipping rate name

  • Displays the shipping method name alongside the shipping cost label (e.g., "Shipping (Standard): $30.00").
  • The shipping rate name is the name of the shipping rate selected by the customer at checkout (e.g., "Standard", "Express", "Free Shipping", "Next Day Delivery").
  • The rate name appears in parentheses next to the "Shipping" label.
  • Only shown when the order has a shipping method name. If no method name exists, only the "Shipping" label is displayed.
  • Off by default.

Tip: Enable Order shipping rate name if your store offers multiple shipping options (e.g., Standard, Express, Overnight). This helps customers quickly identify which shipping method they selected and what they were charged.

Where shipping charges appear on the invoice

Shipping detail fields appear in the totals breakdown section at the bottom of the invoice:

  • Order shipping — appears as a row in the totals area, below the subtotal and discount rows and above the tax and grand total rows.
  • Order shipping rate name — appears in parentheses next to the "Shipping" label text on the same row (e.g., "Shipping (Express)").

Enable or disable shipping charge fields

  1. In the Shipping details sub-section, check or uncheck the fields you want to show or hide.
  2. Review the live preview on the right — the totals area updates immediately.
  3. Click Save changes at the top of the Visual Editor.

Note: Changes apply only to invoices generated after saving. Previously generated PDFs are not affected.

Troubleshooting

Symptom

Likely Cause

Fix

Shipping row shows $0.00

The order has free shipping or no shipping charges

This is expected. To hide it, uncheck Order shipping

Shipping rate name not showing

Checkbox not enabled, or the order has no shipping method name

Enable the checkbox and verify the order has a shipping method in Shopify Admin (Orders → select order → Shipping section)

Shipping amount seems incorrect

May include shipping discounts or multiple shipping lines

Check the Shopify order to verify the actual charge — the amount shown is the total after any shipping discounts

Shipping row missing entirely

The Order shipping checkbox is not enabled

Open the Visual Editor and check Order shipping in the Shipping details sub-section

FAQs

Q : Can I hide the shipping row for orders with free shipping?
A : Not directly from the Visual Editor — the row appears whenever the checkbox is enabled, regardless of the amount. To conditionally hide it, use the Code Editor to add a Liquid condition that checks if the shipping total is zero.

Q : Can I change the "Shipping" label text?
A : Yes. Go to the Labels section in the Visual Editor and update the Shipping label field to your preferred text (e.g., "Delivery", "Freight", "Postage").

Q : Does this include shipping tax?
A : The shipping row shows the shipping cost only. Shipping tax is included in the overall tax total displayed in the Tax details section.

Q : What happens if the order has no shipping (e.g., digital products)?
A : If the Shopify order has no shipping charges, the shipping row shows "$0.00" when enabled. For a cleaner invoice on digital product orders, disable the Order shipping checkbox.

Q : Can I show the shipping rate name without the shipping cost?
A : No. The shipping rate name is displayed as part of the shipping row label. If Order shipping is unchecked, the entire row (including the rate name) is hidden.
